2007 Surveyors CEU Cruise – Day 6
Cruise Day 6 (Thursday March 01, 2007)
Today is a day at sea, meaning that the entire day was available for continuing education classes. I chose to attend the class on "Organizing Your CAD Files" conducted by Larry Phipps, in the morning session, and "Horizontal Curves", taught by Reynold Davenport in the afternoon session.
Larry had great advise on organizing data so that it could be easily retreived. He covered logical job numbering schemes and suggestions about cross referencing to make the information more accessable
I thought that Reynold’s class on Horizontal Alighment was the most intense class on the cruise, not so much for the difficulty, but because of the scope of the material presented. Circular, compound, reverse, spirals, and super elevations were all covered in detail, complete with sample problerms and calculations.
The experience was worthwhile, especially for those of us who use our CAD software to automate the calculations and geometric calculations for layout and design.
Reynold passed out a CD with a wealth of information covering ALTA Standards, Erosion control, Drainage Calculation, and more.
